Symbols

George and Lennie's Farm

  • Even if a person knows they can't reach something or the road is very difficault, they still choose to dream. They want the glory and not to have to answer to anyone else.

The Rabbits

  • You need someone who needs you. No matter your ability (or lack thereof) you want to know that you can care for someone and be needed.

Lennie's Puppy

  • The puppy signifies a want. Lennie wants to have a puppy and the rabbits to take care of. Then there comes a bump in the road (the puppy bites) which leads to his frustration. This frustration escalates and results in the death of his puppy and the dream.

Candy's Dog

  • His dog is old, smells, and is seen as useless. They decide it isn't worth their time to care for. This translates to humans. Candy becaomes worried that this same thought will arise about him because of his arm.

The Mouse

  • The mouse represents something you know is not good for you or that you're unable to care for. The mouse is something that Lennie knows he will kill by being to rough. Although he doesn't mean to, he always fails to keep it alive. Still he keeps finding theses small animals.
