Chapter 4 Summary

In this chapter 4 summary friendships that weren't thought to be happend.These are the factors that sum up chapter 4:
- Crooks remembers how great it can be to have a companion
- Loneliness begins to fade away
- Curley's wife shows her true colors
- Crooks finds real friends
- George and Curley's wife remind Crooks of his skin color.
Crooks sits on his bed all alone in the barn away from the other workers. Books and medicine fill the room. Crooks begins rubbing ointment on his back while Lennie walks in the room. Crooks; suprised and annoyed, tells Lennie he has no right being in his room. Lennie wanted to look at his puppy. Lennie asks Crooks if he can stay because the guys went into town. Crooks, very annoyed with Lennie, finally gives in and lets him stay. Lennie starts to talk about the rabbits but, Crooks just thinks he's crazy. Lennie tells Crook if he doesnt believe him he can ask George. Crooks asks Lennie about traveling with George and if George and him talk. Crooks starts getting excited when he figured out he can tell Lennie anything, because Lennie wont understand. Crooks asks Lennie what he would do if George never came back from town for him. Lennie. confused, tells Crooks that George would never do that. Crooks teases Lennie that George could be hurt or killed and Lennie becomes threatening and demanding of who killed George. Crooks backs off. Being alone his whole like he didnt want to lose Lennie as a companion.
Candy walks into the barn Looking for Lennie. Crooks tries to appear angry but inside is happy to have someone else in his room. Candy talks to Lennie about making money off their rabbits, telling him they already have land picked out. Crooks touches his spine and imagines when he no longer has to do no work. Curley's wife walks in and is looking for Curley. Lennie starres and Crooks and Candy try to get her to leave. Curley's wife begins to complain about how Curley is so boring and he only talks about the guys he wants to fight. Crooks getting angry, tells Curley's wife to leave. She reminds him what a white women can do to a black man. She starts insulting all the guys. She tells Crooks that he could be hanging by a tree anytime. All four hear a noise outside and Curley's wife finally leaves. Candy tells Crooks how unfair she is and Crooks responds with nothing.
George comes in looking for Lennie and scolds at him for being in Crooks room. When Candy starts to talk about the farm, George becomes angry of the fact he mentioned it in front of Crooks. Crooks tells Candy he wouldnt want to come to their farm. Curley's wife crushed his back into place and now he is once again all alone. He resumes rubbing ointment on his back.
