Morals
People need others to talk to to survive.
- Lennie and George travel together. George could easily have went off on his own without the distraction of Lennie to slow him down. He chooses to keep Lennie around so he has a reason to keep going. When Lennie is no longer there, his dream is killed because he has no one that is a genuine friend to share it with.
- Crooks is a private person outside because he has nobody to talk to that shows they care. It eats him up inside that people don't care at all so he keeps everything to himself assuming no one will ever care.
Sometimes, even though its not what you want, you have to do what's right.
- George wanted Lennie to do good things and share his dream with him. But when Curley's wife is killed, so is his dream because there is no way that they would keep him alive. George shoots Lennie because he has to. Lennie would probably have been lynched anyways.
Man's ability is attached to someone to share it with.
- Lennie and George aided in each other's ability to complete the dream. Lennie was strong and could do better work than anyone else. George had the imagination and strategy to reach their dream. Without the other, one of them could not live out the dream alone.
