Analysis for Chapter 3, Quote #2
“S’pose they was a carnival or a circus come to town, or a ball game, or any damn thing.” Old Candy nodded in appreciation of the idea. “We’d just go to her,” George said. “We wouldn’t ask nobody if we could. Jus’ say, ‘We’ll go to her,’ an’ we would. Jus’ milk the cow and sling some grain to the chickens an’ go to her.” (George pg. 60-61)

This is a perfect example of the American dream. George is explaining to Lennie and Candy how, if they had their own plot of land, they could do whatever they wanted to. They would have the freedom to just get up and leave and go to the ball game, or go to the circus, or go wherever they please. The quote also goes along with the idea that as long as you have someone to share your dreams with, that they're still quite attainable. But the moment you don't have anyone, they're suddenly gone.
