Analysis for Chapter 3, Quote #1

"I ain't got no people. I seen the guys that go around on the ranches alone. That ain't no good. They don't have no fun. After a long time they get mean. They get wantin' to fight all the time... 'Course Lennie's a God damn nuisance most of the time, but you get used to goin' around with a guy an' you can't get rid of him." (George pg. 45)

It's pretty apparent that there are recurring themes in the book. Loneliness, friendship, predatory nature of humans... Anyways. This quote is important because it's showing George appreciating Lennie. In the situation that the two men are in, you would think that it's usually Lennie appreciating George--whether it's for sticking around with him, or for defending him, or for being his friend. But here, it shows that even though sometimes George is bitter about being with Lennie, and that even though Lennie can be a pain in the ass to deal with, George is relieved to have his company. He doesn't want to end up like the other men, especially Curley.
